In a move to promote awareness of early childhood development, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has unveiled a series of animated films aimed at supporting young children’s emotional and social growth. The project, launched through her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, is now available on YouTube and is tailored for use by families, charities, and early years professionals.
The initiative includes one main animated film accompanied by six explainer videos, all focused on highlighting the importance of nurturing relationships in a child’s formative years. Versions of the films are also available in Welsh and with British Sign Language, making them more accessible to a wider audience.
Speaking about the launch, the Princess emphasised the crucial role early childhood plays in shaping future well-being. “Early childhood has been recognised as the golden opportunity to build strong foundations for future life health and happiness,” she stated. “These new films showcase how nurturing, loving interactions with children in their earliest years foster essential social and emotional development.”
The project stems from the Centre for Early Childhood, which the Princess established in 2021. In June, she took part in a creative workshop at the Centre, where she met illustrators and early years professionals involved in producing the films. The Princess expressed that these core social and emotional skills are vital for building healthy relationships and navigating life with resilience.
“These are fundamental building blocks that carry us through life,” she said. “That is why we want to raise awareness and celebrate the extraordinary value of everyday moments of connection. These moments matter more than ever in our rapidly changing world.”
By equipping adults—parents, carers, and educators alike—with accessible tools to support children’s early years, the animated series aims to make a long-term impact on how society nurtures future generations. The Princess concluded, “Early childhood offers a sacred opportunity to transform our societies for the better. By nurturing these skills in our babies and children, we will be raising a younger generation better equipped to face the future.”
The release of the films reflects the Princess of Wales' continued commitment to early childhood advocacy and her belief in creating meaningful change through education and awareness.
