‘Roid’ Becomes First Bangladeshi Film on America’s National Broadcast

The film 'Roid', directed by Mezbaur Rahman Sumon, is now spreading light worldwide, moving beyond the borders of the country. Bioscope Films is the distributor of the film in America and Canada. This is the first time any Bangladeshi film has been selected to be officially reviewed through America's famous broadcast company NPR across their 1,000 stations.

Notably, to secure nominations at various world-class events in the global arena, especially the Oscars and BAFTA, it is very important for a movie to find a place in discussions on international broadcast platforms. This year, as their 55th distribution, Bioscope Films has released the movie 'Roid' in multiple cinema halls in America and Canada. Every year, Bioscope Films traditionally tries to complete every step required for an Oscar nomination for a movie they distribute.

This is the first time a Bangladeshi movie has been selected for review on a major platform like NPR. This is America's national radio, NPR (National Public Radio), which has 1,000 stations across the whole of America. Detailed discussions about movies take place on this station regarding films by world-renowned filmmakers, starting from Spielberg to those across the globe. They select which movie they will grant a place in their review section by considering the movie's contest* and background. Based on that consideration, they contact the distributor. Only after that, basically, a draft of the movie has to be submitted to them. They judge it by looking at the details, and only then do they decide whether they will review the movie or not.

In that regard, a Bangladeshi film has been able to touch such a milestone for the very first time. Regarding this matter, Raj Hamid, the head of the film's distributor Bioscope Films, said: "Every year, we try for the recognition of the highest platform with a Bengali film. We know this path is not smooth. However, it is not impossible either. Therefore, we want to move forward little by little, carrying the flag of Bengali cinema. We consider this selection regarding the movie 'Roid' on America's national radio to be a major success for us."

In this regard, the film's maker Mezbaur Rahman Sumon said: "I made the film out of my own love and affection. After that, the film kept reaching different people. That there will be a long-running discussion about a Bangladeshi movie on America's National Radio is certainly a matter of joy as a filmmaker." Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi have acted in the two lead roles of the film 'Roid'. Additionally, eminent actor Gazi Rakayet has acted in an important role in the film. The film is produced by Bongo and Facecard.
