Mohammad Nuruzzaman’s Mastul (international title: Beyond the Mast) has been selected for the main competition at the 47th Moscow International Film Festival, continuing Bangladesh’s growing presence at the event. This marks the second consecutive year a Bangladeshi film has entered the competition.
Known for his previous work Aam Kathaler Chhuti, Nuruzzaman drew inspiration for Mastul from his upbringing in Narayanganj and the lives of dock workers. The film stars Fazlur Rahman Babu as a ship's cook and features a talented ensemble cast.
With past Bangladeshi entries like Adim, Nirvana, and Peyarar Subash making waves in Moscow, Mastul joins 11 international films from countries including Russia, Korea, and Spain. The festival runs from April 17–24.
Nuruzzaman expressed his excitement about the selection and shared that the team will attend the festival in Moscow. Designed by artist Dhruba Esh, the official festival poster for Mastul has also been unveiled. The film has been cleared for all-age local release and is set to debut in Bangladesh after its international premiere.
