Bangladeshi independent film Delupi has taken a major step forward with acclaimed Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap joining the project as its presenter. The film will now be promoted and released under the banner Anurag Kashyap Presents Delupi.
Directed by Mohammad Touqir Islam, Delupi had its international premiere earlier this year in the Bright Future section of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film was part of a notable moment for Bangladeshi cinema at the festival, where three Bangladeshi productions, Delupi, Roid, and Master, were selected in different competitive sections. Master later won the Big Screen Award, making the year even more significant for Bangladesh on the international film stage.
Delupi is set in a Bangladeshi village struggling with the aftermath of a flood and political unrest. The story follows Partha and Nupur, whose relationship becomes caught in a larger local conflict. As political pressure grows around young activist Mihir, the village faces a fight for survival, dignity, and a sustainable dam that could protect their homes from future disaster.
Anurag Kashyap’s involvement is expected to give the film greater visibility among international audiences, festival programmers, and distributors. Known for his strong support of independent cinema, Kashyap’s association adds important momentum to Delupi as it continues its journey beyond Bangladesh.
For the makers of the film, this collaboration marks an important milestone. As an independent Bangladeshi production, receiving support from a filmmaker of Kashyap’s stature reflects growing confidence in the film’s artistic strength and international potential.
Mohammad Touqir Islam directed, produced, wrote, and shot the film. The screenplay was written by Touqir Islam along with Amit Rudra, who also served as executive producer and art director. Tanveer Hossain is the co-producer, while Md. Mushfiqur Rahman Tamal worked as line producer.
The cast of Delupi includes Chiranjeet Biswas, Aditi Roy, Rudra Roy, Md Zakir Hossain, Palash Kumar Ghosh, Prashanta Roy, and Alpona Bairagi. The film is produced by Bangladesh-based Footprint Film Production.
With Anurag Kashyap now attached as presenter, Delupi enters a new chapter in its international journey, carrying forward the growing presence of Bangladeshi independent cinema on the global stage.
